The VaVas Story
Long, long before anyone had ever heard of the YaYa Sisterhood or the Sweet Potato Queens, there were the VaVas– a devoted covey of four women who discovered a powerful amulet that promises power and performance, especially in love, for those who believe.... the Vavamojo®! The VaVas had been searching for the definitive piece of jewelry which would become their signature piece. It was Mustang Sally who discovered it–a very powerful amulet–the perfect VaVa adornment. Mustang Sally was in South Carolina with a group of six men hunting for wild boar. Their guide (named Bedspread because he had been turned down so many times) took a liking to Mustang and wanted her to bag the first boar. So, before the hunt, he pulled her aside, took her hand and placed in her palm a red drawstring pouch, promising it would bring her luck. The hunt began. Four days went by without a single sighting. On the fifth day just at dawn, Mustang awoke with an urgent need. She quietly crawled out of her sleeping bag, reached for her rifle with the red pouch tied on it, opened the flap of the tent and tip-toed out. Making her way through the brush she found a good spot, dropped trou, and assumed the position. Immediately she smelled a beast and then saw him about 50 paces in front of her. She ever so slowly raised her rifle, and still in position, squeezed the trigger. “Truffles” is now mounted above the fireplace in her library. After the men came running and the brouhaha and swearing subsided, Bedspread pulled her aside, smiled and told Mustang it was time to open the mojo bag. Inside was a 5 inch, gracefully curved white bone– the diameter of a pussy willow branch. He told her it was her very own mojo, a raccoon baculum bone coveted as the most powerful amulet that promises good luck, especially in love. She asked him if he could get seven more so that she could have four pair of earrings made for the VaVas. That was the beginning of the Vavamojos® Jewelry Collection. |
